Demolition of a Wall

I finally got time to find a contractor who would demolish a wall and install a new soundproofed wall. Interestingly, the previous owners actually had not 1, but 4 layers of drywall. Between each layer was nothing like Green Glue or any compound, just an extra layer of drywall with some sound board. In addition, there was already R-13 Fiberglass insulation. Four layers of drywall, a layer of sound board, R-13 insulation, and nothing in between the drywall still sounded terrible. Who knew! In case you're bored and never saw a wall destroyed, (like me!), it's a pretty interesting look into how buildings are made.

Part 1 of the top most layer down. The brown stuff is 'sound board'. Note to all, sound board sucks.

Oh hello insulation... and what is that weird yellow stuff? Looks like the previous builder used window sealant...

More soundboard. One layer of drywall and soundboard gone from the sides.

One layer all cleaned up.

Removing all the supports for the first two layers. Onto the last two layers. One layer of plaster with one layer of drywall.

Weird gunk over the electrical outlet. Who knew the hung from the ceiling in residential buildings. And more gunk!

Finally tore down the drywall and plaster on one layer. We see the exposed studs and the insulation.

The studs clearly exposed with no insulation. Now we're ready to build a new wall.

So much trash. So much trash.

Soon, a new sound proofed wall.. soon.
